TROPHIES!!!

Posted: 02/14/97
As the season comes to a close we need to start getting our awards around. Since not all of our teams submitted rosters (as politely requested on numerous occasions) we need to do a little ground work. If you are one of the 1st or 2nd place teams (or still in the hunt perhaps) would you please send me your current roster. If you have any question of whether I've got your roster you can look on my "Team Contacts" page, if you see a USA Hockey Id#, I've got it and you're all set. Please note however, if you've had amendments during the year I will need copies of those.
Our awards will be as follows:
Team trophies to 1st and 2nd place.
Individual trophies to 1st place.
Individual certificates to 1st and 2nd place.
I need the rosters to get an exact count for the trophies and to complete the certificates. The certificates will have all your teammates listed and will be suitable for framing. If you'd like to send me a team picture I may be able to scan and post them on our "Past Champions" page. By the way, if there are team pictures available from last year's teams I would be interested in those also. If you want the pictures back please send a pre-addressed and stamped envelope.

Please help me out here, I would appreciate a timely response.

BTHL Board Meeting

Our monthly board meeting will be held at 6:00pm on Monday February 3 at Icelands in Cincinnati. Issues discussed will include the year end tournament for next season. Please plan to attend if at all possible.

Referees

Posted: 01/27/97
It has come to my attention that some Associations have on occasion supplied a single referee for league games. Our rules are very specific in this area, 2 are required. Please refer to our Code of Regulations, (IV.E.1. & IV.E.3.) Referees. If you are faced with this situation as a "visiting" team you have 2 options:
1) Agree to play the game with one referee, to make it an official game both coaches MUST sign the front of the scoresheet indicating they acknowledge the situation and accept it as such.
2) You could play the game as a scrimmage and make up the league game at a later date.

If you choose option 2 and you are not able to re-schedule, the game will be recorded as a forfeit loss to the "home" team. If you are able to re-schedule it will be at the "visitors" rink with expenses paid by the "offending" team.

Penalty times

Posted: 01/06/97
Game #197, Dayton Bluehawks vs. Fort Wayne Squirt "A", has been placed under protest due to the use of 1:30 penalties during a league game. This is a violation of our Rules and Regulations, (F.4) Penalty times. Verification currently being sought, final ruling will be posted on this page.
Ruling: 01/22/97 Facts have been verified, the protest has been honored. Game is to be rescheduled in Fort Wayne at Dayton's expense or it will be scored as a forfeit.

BTHL Referee Rule Change

Posted: 12/23/96
A notice has been mailed to your BTHL representative regarding changes made to our Code of Regulations, (IV.E.1. & IV.E.3.) Referees.

1. Please be aware that we have modified our Code of Regulations regarding Referees. Please check it out if you havn't already done so.

2. Scoresheets. Some teams still have not mailed in scoresheets. Please cooperate and try to keep up with them.

3. Those of you that have been sending me scoresheets, thank you. If you're also putting the game#s on, thank you again. This is very helpful and saves me the time of looking it up.

4. We are now about half way through the season and I'm concerned with the number of TBA's we seem to have on our schedule. I'll be in touch with you over the next couple of weeks to get them cleaned up. If you fall into this catagory please make an effort to get the games scheduled.

League All Star Series ??

Posted: 11/27/96
Randy Lundi with the Euclid Hockey Association (Cleveland area) has contacted me and thrown out the idea of a "Cleveland Suburban League" vs. "Buckeye Travel League" All Star series. He coaches at the Mite "A" level and that is where his primary interest is. If we are at all interested he's indicated that he'd try to generate interest at the other age groups. He can be reached at 216/259-3671-Home&Work or 800/670-1428-pager. His initial thoughts were to have 2 games home and 2 games away sometime in March. Our next Board Meeting will be December 14th or 15th in the Dayton area, if there seems to be an interest we could potentially start talking about some details at that point.
Send me a message and tell me what you think: bthl@mail.bright.net

BTHL - League Patches!!

Posted: 11/20/96
Patches are in and in the process of being distributed. They will be hand delivered to Associations playing Findlay this weekend (Indy Blues Mites, Hamilton PeeWees, Dayton Bluehawk PeeWees, Northern Kentucky PeeWees and Fort Wayne Midgets). The remaining patches were mailed to your League Rep today (Wednesday Nov 20).
If you do not receive your patches within a week please contact your League Rep:
Louisville, Krisi Dowden; Cincinnati, Greg West; Columbus (IN), Mark Kevitt; Columbus (OH), Jan Girard; Bowling Green, Doug Simons; South Bend, Phil Joubert; Indy Racers, Dennis Casey; Oxford, Jeff Hanna

Included with the patches was flyer reading as follows:

As directed by our Board of Trustees you should apply the league patch on the front right hand shoulder of your game jersey. Please note that this is the opposite side from the "C" or "A" in the case of team captains. You should decide as a team whether you want to do your home or away jersey. Those of you that played in the league last year should have a patch from last year and could put a patch on both home and away. For those of you new to the league, if you'd like to purchase a second patch they are available for $3.00/each. In order to minimize my work I'm going to ask that if you want to order patches please summarize and pay for them as a team.

ie: If 5 players on your team want a second patch send me a check for $15. (Made out to "Buckeye Travel Hockey League").

The number of players using the patches last year was disappointing to say the least. Please make an effort to participate this year. Major tournaments such as Silver Sticks or State Championships are ideal for additional league exposure. The league has expanded nicely in just 2 years and this exposure can only help us continue to grow. The more people that know about us, the more teams we will attract over the years. With the growth experienced this year we were able to separate our "A" and "AA" teams at the Squirt, PeeWee and Bantam age groups. This same growth allowed us to further split our Squirt "A" division geographically. More teams in the league will allow us to continue that trend.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Just wanted to let you know that phone calls are coming in much better, thank you!
A few things would make things easier however:

1. Please call ASAP! I've settled into a routine of posting results on Sunday afternoon/evening and if I haven't heard from you, you will hear from me. Actually I'd prefer NOT to call you, it's just that when I post the results I'd like them to be as complete as possible. It just makes my job a little easier and makes the page more meaningful to those of you using it.

2. Make your phone calls brief and concise. "Your name, Game#, Home score, Visiting score [click]". (Plus any game suspensions). Just that brief and in that order. It'll be easier for both you and me and I can assure you I will not be offended. At the point I'm recording all this I'm not concerned with who's playing who, etc. Keep in mind that I'm getting results for over 500 games this season!

3. Use game#s. It saves me looking it up.

4. Please mail your scoresheets on a regular basis. Most of you are cooperating quite nicely, but some of you have yet to send any! We both know who you are. If you have any question whether I've received them you can tell by looking at the age group standings. If the game is listed in bold print, I've got it. If the game is listed in italics print, I don't! I'd rather not have to call to get them and I'd rather not get your whole season in the month of March. Please help.

5. I still need official rosters. There again, you can tell if I've received yours by looking in the Team contacts section. If the USA Hockey Id# is listed with your team info, I've got your roster. If it's not there, I've not received it!

6. Check the results for accuracy. I try not to make errors but we all know it happens.

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Len

Just a couple of notes now that we have a few games under our belt.

1. Please call me with game results just as soon as it's convienent. (From the rink immediately following the game would be nice. At home in the evening is probably more realistic). We've had games over 2 weekends now and I've received 1 phone call, all the other results listed were gathered through phone calls generated by me.

2. In your phone call please be brief and to the point.

A typical call should sound like this:
"Joe calling with results for game #174... Home 5... Visitor 2" [click]

That is really all I need (and want!). As the season gets under way I should receive as many as 20 phone calls over a given weekend. I do want to hear from you but at the same time I'd like to minimize my listening time.

3. The game# I'm referring to is the number on your schedule, not the 1st or 2nd time you've played a particular team.

4. I need confirmed schedules signed and returned by a number of teams yet. They are past due, I want them now.

(South Bend, Indy Racers, Fort Wayne; are you reading this?) Please help me out here.

5. I need official rosters (stamped by USA Hockey) from most of you.

6. Please mail copies of your scoresheets a minimum of every 2 weeks.

Len
