Pull up your roster and click on the "Edit" button at the bottom of the screen. That will bring up a "Password Entry" screen. On that screen is a link to the "Password Request Form". Fill it out and submit it.

Len, Here is an analogy that might help with the seeding difficulty. The NCAA Basketball tournament probably has more people view their brackets than any other tournament in the world. The basic format is always the same 1 vs 8/9 winner, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. The 1/8 winner plays the 4/5 winner and the 2/7 winner plays the 3/6 winner and so on. The NCAA has been doing this as long as I can ever remember. Even when they had less than 64 teams, the lowest seeds always played each other in a preliminary round for the right to play the #1 or #2 seed in the main draw. This would be the case in many of our BTHL divisions that have an odd number of teams. Regardless of what this other organizing book says, almost every sports tournament has the highest seed play the lowest seed in the first round. That is the reward for finishing higher in the standings over the long hard season. There is plenty of time to change the brackets. All you have to do is change the team placements, ! not times, dates or anything else. The tournament is still 5 weeks away. I hope this helps.

I admit that I was surprised to see the tournament brackets set up as they were. I, too, had expected a more "traditional" bracket arrangement. While I have not read the book referenced by Len, I can see where the current bracket arrangement has its advantages. Most importantly, it seems that the effect of the current arrangement is to make ALL the tournament games more competitive, not just a handful of games. This certainly makes the overall tournament more exciting and more interesting from the get-go, especially for the kids involved. Let's also keep this in perspective. This is not Division I NCAA basketball (big time business) this is not professional football this is youth hockey. In addition, our kids play more non-league games than league games they play more tournaments than the BTHL league tournament. While the league is a necessary and valuable framework around which we play, it is not the alpha and omega of our season. We play throughout the year to become the best youth hockey team we can be and to have fun! We certainly do not play for purposes of obtaining a particular seeding in a particular tournament. If this seeding makes for a better overall tournament experience for the kids, then I applaud the board for using it. I suspect (and hope) that most of the coaches and parents would feel the same way.

After reviewing the Squirt AA Tournament Bracket, I am miffed as to why the BTHL Board elected to use a non-traditional format. I have never played in or coached a team that the highest seed played higher seeded teams than the #2 seed does. Other than the answer "We got it oout of a book", can you provide me with some specific purpose and background that went into this decision process? I certainly hope there was discussion by the board on this and not just someone that put it all together and the rest of you said "looks good to me". There is no current format used in sports today that I am aware of that would penalize the top rated team in the playoffs. Please explain.......or, correcting the bracket to a normal setup would be best....there's plenty of time to do it. Thank you.

Hello Len, Based on the PeeWee AA bracket, the sixth seed would play 2nd and possibly 4th seeds while the 5th seed would play the 1st and possibly 3rd. Most people would chose the 6th spot. Also, why does the 4th seed play 8/9 while the 1st seed play the 5th? Isn't the format usaully 1 vs 8/9, 4 vs 5, 3 vs 6 and 2 vs 7. This rewards those that do well in the overall league standings. Thanks for your time.

Hi Len, Are the seeds placed properly in the Squirt AA bracket? Currently has: 1 vs. 5 2 vs. 6 7 vs. 9 8 vs. 10 then 3 taking on winner of 7/9 and 4 taking on winner of 8/10. Should it not be: 1 vs. 6 2 vs. 5 7 vs. 10 8 vs. 9 with 3 playing winner of 7/10 and 4 taking on winner of 8/9??? I was showing one of our coaches and the question came up. Thanks. |

You can make an argument for either way. Our tournament directors have used the book "Organizing Successful Tournaments" by John Byl as a guideline.

I was curious about BTHL rules concerning the eligibility of a player rostered and playing in Junior B games and then playing in Midget A BTHL games. Is that player eligible to play in Midget A BTHL games?

Players are eligible to play in the BTHL as long as that player is legal with USA Hockey and is rostered with the BTHL team before Dec 31.
