The statistics are entered by the team managers and have been updated and posted weekly. You can find them in the roster section. Note that Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above is required. Unfortunately Netscape does no support the necessary "Data Binding" feature.

I want to thank all of the teams for participating in the 2000 Buckeye Travel League Tournament. We are actively pursuing other teams in the tri-state area to join the league for the 2000-2001 season. Thanks to all of the volunteers who spent their weekend at the rinks, making sure the games went on with as little interruption as possible.

Let me begin by saying that our team, the Columbus Flames Squirts, was formed from two cites Bloomington and Columbus. The Flames nor the Blades had sufficient numbers without combining to even form a team. Unlike some organizations, we never set out to form an elite or "AA" team we just wanted to compete fairly. We were put in the "AA" League by the league. We never protested nor complained to the league nor any other teams. Our kids just laced them up and played to the best of their abilities all year long. We took our lumps, but we never cried to the league and won't. I'm sure that many of the complainers would have quit the league, but that's not our style. Our kids have worked hard at improving all year long. When we were approac hed, I repeat approached, about switching with the Blackhawks we naturally accepted the idea. However, we did not initiate the idea or appeal to the board for a favor as some of you might think. This whole switch was never anyone's intent to be used as a make-up to the Flames. My hat is off to the Blackhawks for their honesty and integerity in playing in the "AA" Bracket. Also, I would like to congratulate the Dayton Gem Minor team for advancing to the finals. I also want to congratulate the Norseman A team for a great effort. For those of you who blasted your comments about our team I only ask that you might want to think about what and who is all involved prior to making statements about a team and their efforts to compete fairly. Sure, I would have loved to had our last ga me decided on the ice by the kids instead of a tie-breaker, but it was not. However, I refuse to stand and cry about "would-have beens and should-have beens". . . I am extremely proud of our kids and the accomplishments that they have made. The shame of it all is that some of you can't be just as proud as your team win or loose! Mark Weichman Columbus Flames Squirt Coach

This is my comment on the year end tournament.well run but some of the rules that govern the buckeye league I feel have been broken or overlooked. The Northern Kentucky bantam A team was deemed not to have enough talent to play at the AA leve l so they were permitted to play as an A team. With more than six second year players,I dont have a problem with this what I have concern for is that after the team was chosen it clearly says,an A team with six or more players cannot add second year playe rs after playing level determinations have been made.I feel that rosters should be in with the buckeye league board before Dec 31 or face penalties. Thanks for taking the time to read the feedback

In response to much feedback regarding the Col. Flames 'AA' team playing in the 'A' bracket and all wondering who is allowing this, check the January minutes of the BTHL. It states, "The Columbus Flames 'AA' team petitioned to play at the 'A'level in th e End-of-Season Playoffs. In addition to the fact that this was the right thing to do, we had already allowed the Gems Minor team to play at the 'A' level in the playoffs and the Gems have a better record that the Flames..." The Columbus Flames originally petitioned to play in the 'A' bracket prior to the beginning of the season due to the fact that the Flames are a small market team which struggles to get enough players to form a team. The Flames won only 1 'AA' game again st an 'A' team. This 'A' team, Gems Minor, was playing in both 'A/AA' divisions. They played in the 'A' division of the End-of-Season Playoffs. This is why the BTHL noted in the January minutes "...we had already allowed the Gems Minor team to play at the 'A' level in the playoffs." This should finally help all of you get a better idea of the situation before jumping to conclusions.

dear mr. holtgreven: I believe that the year end tournament, though very organized, suprised me. My team played to a tie, and it was unfortunate that rules stated that it would go to a shoot out to decide the winner. i was wondering why they opted for a shootout rather than head to head overtime. thank you

Since the last place team in the Squirt AA division is allowed to play down in the Squirt A tournament, can the last place teams in the Bantam AA and PeeWee AA do the same thing(move down to the A tournaments in their division)?

Be sure to check the correct scores for Col. Flames "AA" Squirt team over the weekend of Feb. 12th. Only one game was tied, while the others were won by Ft. Wayne.

There are several players from two teams in the mite division that are rostered on two teams as sanctioned by league rules. Are these players allowed to skate for the team of their choice for the tournament and if that team loses can they the n skate for the other team that is still "alive" in the tournament? Thank you.

Based on all the recent findings (game scores etc). Why not put everyone in the Squirt tournaments in their Own Original Divisions as based on BTHL rules.......Its not fair for kids to work hard all year to get cheated out of the acheivements they rightfully deserve.

Just to keep it straight. The Columbus Flames Squirt team lost 3 times to the Ft. Wayne Squirt AA and tied them once. The tie feeling like a major victory for this small market team, but still probably just an "off" game for Fort Wayne and a very "on" game for Columbus. The scores of the 3 losses were 6-1, 9-1, 7-0. Clearly not a dominating record out of 4 games in one weekend.............

COMMENTS RE: PEEWEE "A" GAME FW COMETS VS OWENSBORO BLAST ON JAN. 29. THIS WAS THE MOST PITFUL DISPLAY OF REFERRING AND BAD SPORTSMANSHIP DISPLAYED IN ONE GAME ANYONE COULD HAVE THE MISFORTUNE TO WITNESS. THE ENTIRE GAME WAS TOTALLY UNCONTROLLED BY THE REF. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT!!!!! THE GAME WAS SO BAD THAT THE PARENTS FROM FORT WAYNE WERE APOLOGIZING TO US AFTER THE GAME. THEIR PLAYERS WERE ALLOWED TO CONTINUALLY HACK AND SLASH THE GOALIE, THE WHISTLE ON OUR END WAS VERY SLOW AND INAUDIBLE. AT TH E END OF THE GAME IT LOOKED MORE LIKE WWF INSTEAD OF A HOCKEY GAME. ONE OF THEIR PLAYERS WAS SITTING ON OURS KICKING HIM WITH HIS SKATES AND HITTING HIM IN THE HEAD W/HIS STICK NO CALL MADE. WE CHOSE TO FORFIET THE NEXT AM GAME FEARING FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR PLAYERS. THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR ON BEHALF OF A TEAM AND REF SHOULD BE SEVERELY PUNISHED. I ONLY HOPE THAT WE DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY THIS TEAM DURING THE TOURNAMENT. HOCKEY SHULD BE FUN NOT FEARED. CLEAN UP YOUR ACT FORT WAYNE. OWENSBORO PARENT

Evansville Thunder Parent!

On Saturday 2/5/00 the Evansville Thunder Peewee AA team played Cincinnati. The Evansville Captain was given a penalty for yelling to the ref "Get them off of me!". While in the penalty box along with 2 other Evansville players who likewise had received penalties, the ref approached the Evansville bench to assess another penalty for too many men on the ice. The Evansville Captain questioned "how can the team receive a penalty for that when you didn't explain when we were allowed to go back on?". The ref 's response was "You shut up...one more word and you're gone!" The Evansville Captain sat back down on the bench in the penalty box and shook his head in disgust! The next thing we see is the captain being removed from the game for being unsportsmanlike (the only game he has been removed from in 6 hockey years). After the game the other referee came over to the bench and apologized for his partner and some of the calls explaining he had never worked with him in the past and via! partner respect chose not to intervene. Also after the game the Evansville Coach sought out the referee who had ejected the player and asked whether the player would have to sit out the next game. His response was No that he would be allowed to play! The following morning the 2 teams played again. The Evansville Captain got dressed, warmed up, and took his position as right wing for the start of the game. With referees in position, the Cincinnati scorekeeper (the same white haired lady who kept score the night before) called the ref over and handed the score sheet from the previous night to show that the Evansville Captain had received a game misconduct and should not be allowed to play. The only way that the player could play was if the Cincinnati team did not object. The immediate response from the Cincinnati bench was... No Way! When I walked over to ask one of their coaches why they wouldn't let him play his response was "BYE". I later learned that this parent/coach operated the equipment store at the rink. Excellent role model for a group of 13 year olds. In 3 Buckeye league games over the Feb 5,6 weekend I had witnessed the Evansville Captain given a 10 minute misconduct penalty for sliding the hockey puck away from the referee (who had just called a penalty against him) even though the OTHER referee was the recipient of the puck. He sat out roughly a period and ½ waiting for a whistle. After this game the OTHER referee also apologized for his partner to the Evansville Bench. In the night game the Captain was removed from the game for "questioning the r eferee" something I understand Captains are allowed to do. The next game they waited until the game was to start (that took some real class) to remove this player. Would it surprise you to learn that this player leads the team in goals and assists. Our t eam/players/families traveled 200+ miles for this experience. Sour Grapes..............I don't think so! Our record is average! When we are ON we can play with most! Chances are that's what Cincinnati feared. Winning isn't everything it's the only thing... must be their motto! We play in the Buckeye League Tournament on Feb 26th and 27th. After those games I will give you my rendition of "See Ya!" Evansville Thunder Parent!

I am writing in response to the Evansville Thunder parent whom was complaining about the officiating in the game against Cincy. First of all I did not attend the game so i am not an eyewitness but I can tell you right now that the type of l anguage that was used in the letter was not that of which was said on the ice. I have played hockey for 11 years now and I am now a Bantam who plays on the Michigan state champion and soon to be natiuonal champion American Legion Marquette AA hockey team and I can tell you that when this kid was in the penalty box I am sure he did not use the polite language that was stated in this letter. Also when he told the ref to "get them off me" I know for sure that there were a few expletives in his speech, neve r in my life have I heard that sentence on the ice without something else added. I wasn't just a kind little "please remove these kids from on top of me!!! Of course the ref is going to give the kid a penalty for that he doesn't ! have to listen to that. I also can tell you that when this kid "question the refs call" I'm positive he didn't say "sir excuse me but why did you make that call" or anything of the sort, and what I'm sure what was realy said was justifiable for a penalty . We live in a pretty dirty world and even kids my age use words that there parents wouldn't dream of using, and this Evansville Thunder parent is the prime example of what gets these kids riled up for example when he/she says "see yah" at the end of the re letter , how immature is that? I hope you and all the other hockey parents in this world just grow up!!
