Year-end Wrap-up

By all accounts the tournament held in Louisville this year was an outstanding success! Congatulations (and thanks) go out to the Louisville Association on a job well done!

Believe it or not, the season is barely over and we are already making plans for next year. We've prided ourselves in making improvements each year and we're asking you to help us continue that trend. Please take the time to fill out our ANNUAL SURVEY. This is your opportunity to voice an opinion and help us improve your league.

One series of questions that's presented in the survey relates to our year-end tournament. How can we improve it? We've received a couple of suggestions already, one of which is to limit the number of teams participating. A copy of the letter has been provided and everyone is encouraged to read it. Another proposal has been made to keep all teams involved but split the tournament into 2 tiers (upper and lower) based on the final standings. Please think about it and provide us your opinion via the survey.

For those that are interested, the survey results will be posted online. Thanks for your support and have a great summer!

The following tie breaker will be used in the case of a tie in points for regular season standings (same as last 2 years):

  1. Results of Head-to-head series between tied teams.
  2. Goal differential (Goals For minus Goals Against) in games between tied teams.
  3. Goals Against in games between tied teams.
  4. Goal differential in all league games.
  5. Goals Against in all league games.
  6. If still tied then declare co-champions. (Coin flip will be used for tournament seeding).

Rule Clarification

In an effort to provide continual improvement to the Buckeye Travel League and it's member organizations, the following rule clarification is in effect for the remainder of the 2000 - '01 Season. This will be reviewed at the Annual Meeting and the 2001 - '02 Rules and Regulations will be updated accordingly.

Section IV.F.2 League Games
Game Time: Games will be played with 12 minute periods, where possible. Where there is not enough ice time for 12 minutes, 10 minutes will be acceptable. If there is enough time for more than 12 minutes, both coaches must be in agreement and the scoresheet must be initialed by both coaches prior to the start of the game, indicating agreement. If one coach is not agreeable with longer periods, 12 minutes will be used.

BUG Workaround

A problem has shown up while attempting to post game scores. Some of you are seeing an error when pressing the "Post Results" button at the bottom of a scoresheet. I hope to fix the problem but in the meantime when the error shows up, press the "Back" button on your browser and then click the "Post Results" button (on the web page) again. It should work the second time. It appears that there is a data file that is not being given time to load and it's causing an error.

Sorry for the inconvenience and let me know if you have any other problems.

Rosters

Team rosters need to be submitted. As per our newly adopted rule, you must submit your stamped USA Hockey Roster before your first league game.

As of this date many, many teams are in violation of this rule and risk game forfeitures!

Also, for those of you new to the league, our website has team rosters with scoring stats posted online. Participation is optional, but I encourage you to check it out. The process starts by posting your roster online followed by posting your game results online (as you play them, not at the end of the year). Summarized stats are generated by the individual game data you enter. (Game results are entered for ALL games, stats are then tracked for league games only). Note that by participating you not only save me time and effort, but you add interest and credibility to the league at the same time. Watch here for additional instructions. In the meantime, check out the archives for examples and feel free to experiment. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them.

Game Results

Team managers are responsible for reporting game results and mailing scoresheets on a weekly basis.

We ask that you report the score in one of 3 ways on Sunday evening (or 1st thing Monday morning) so that we can update our website 1st thing every Monday. In order of preference:

  1. Use our online reporting system. This is easiest for me and allows you to input individual player stats. If you input the data, anyone can call up any game on your schedule and see who scored, who had penalties and how many saves the goalie had (check out the Findlay PeeWee team in our archives from last year for a good example of how it can work). My program will summarize the stats for each team and each age group. Additionally, it will allow you to sort them by points, penalties, etc. It's fun and it adds interest. Please use the online system.

Helpful hint, make sure the jersey numbers listed on your "online" roster are correct. Make the corrections now before reporting any game results. It makes inputing stats much, much easier.

  2. Report via email. Simply give us a list of games and include the [game#], [Home score], [Visiting score]. In exactly that order without any comments (other than game suspensions). I know people tend to put the "high" score first, rather than the "home" score. But if you do it my way, you don't have to key in team names and I don't have to look up the schedule to see who is home or who is visitor, you give me numbers and I simply key in data. It's efficient and saves considerable time for both of us. I've been doing this for 5 years and I know from experience that if done correctly I can input each score in seconds rather than minutes, it adds up to tons of time each and every week!

  3. The last choice would be to phone it in. You'll find a phone# listed at the bottom of your schedule. This truly is our last choice since it takes more time and adds potential for error. Please use the phone only if your computer is down. Start your message with your name and the team you represent, then list the games using the same format detailed above for email; [game#], [Home score], [Visiting score]. Shorter the message the better!

Mail your scoresheets to:
Buckeye Travel Hockey League
c/o Arthur Burghes
104 Brevoort Rd.
Columbus, OH 43214

Scoresheets need to be submitted for several reasons:

  1. So we can verify the reported score.
  2. Look for any unreported game suspensions.
  3. Verify the serving of those game suspensions.
  4. It gives us an official record on file for all the games.

We take pride in the timeliness of information posted on our website and ask that you make it better for everyone else by sending us your scores as asked. If we don't hear from you we will be forced to call you and as I'm sure you can all appreciate, it could easily become a burden with 80 teams in the league.

Thanks for your help!
Len

Schedules

The 2nd round of corrections have now been made. If you sent me a correction and it doesn't show up, I've not received it so please send it again. Again, print your schedule and verify the accuracy then send me a confirming email message.

When sending me corrections, mention the team you represent and use game#s. It really helps.

Note that I will not take any responsibility for an inaccurate schedule, you are each responsible for verifying your own game times and locations.

Contact names have now been updated.

Thanks and have a great season!
