    1. Your Position: Parent/Guardian
      • If other, please identify: No response
    2. Your Association/Team: Dayton Gems
    3. If representing a team:
      • Your age classification: None
      • Your level: None
    4. Overall, how would you rate your experience with the BTHL? Fair
    5. How would you rate the overall competition within the division during regular season play? Fair (Many uncompetive games)
      • Additional comments:
I think the competition was somewhat lopsided. Cause: Teams with too many players playing up, too many second year players and undefeated teams from last year. If a team has the same players from last year and was undefeated or had a season where there were one or two losses, they should move up a bracket to a AA or AAA level. On the flip side, there should be more opportunity for rec leagues, especially in the older age groups. Every 15 year old who wants to play should not be on a travel team.
    6. Scheduling:
      1. Overall, how would you rate the Scheduling, when games scheduled, length of season, etc? Good
      2. Did you attend the September 15, 2001 Scheduling Meeting in Dayton? No
      3. When are your team tryouts/selections held?
        May
      4. If there were a perfect date for the Scheduling Meeting, when would it be? August, so that teams would have there schedules and be ready to
      5. Other comments on Scheduling:
    7. Age groups/divisions:
      1. Our intent is to maintain our current system of allowing 6 "2nd year" players to roster with "A" teams for next year. We also intend to grant exceptions to that rule in situations where there is a limited pool of participants or if the team is 2nd or 3rd in line to select players. How would you describe your position on this rule? Strongly in favor
      2. Please provide us with your opinion, especially if you have strong feelings one way or another.
One bracket is best. We came from an area where there were 14 teams in the finals. The seeding was done by the league, and there were often surprises. It gives the teams that start off slow incentive to continue to improve. Hold the tournament in a more central location. Also, the tournament shouldn't be held in the same place year after year. This gives the home team unfair advantage repeatedly.
      3. We have a tradition of seperating our given divisions geographically when we reach a total of 10-12 teams. Would you like to see that break point go: Unchanged
    8. Tournament:
      1. How would you rate the end of season Tournament? Fair
      2. Plans are already underway for next year's tournament. One possible change being considered is the replacement of consolation games with a consolation bracket for 1st round losers. (Please refer to sample brackets linked from "News" section on our website) Would you be in favor of this change? Yes
      3. Consideration is being given to the addition of a "Bronze Medal" game for the two losers in the Semi-Final games. If your team were in that position would you want to participate in such a game? Yes
      4. Plans for the Tournament were discussed at the September Scheduling Meeting and were discussed at subsequent BTHL Board meetings. Updates were posted on the BTHL Web page with brackets, game times, hotel information, fees, etc.
        • Did you check the Web page for updates? Yes
        • Do you think you were sufficiently kept informed about the tournament? Yes
      5. Other comments on the tournament:
Refs were not the greatest. What is wrong with the refing system here. We moved from a different state, and I can tell you that the refs in this area are extremely biased, overall. They don't call hits to the head that occur right in front of them, and then will call panalties for touching the goalie before the whistle is blown. My sons have played in nine other states, and the refing here is the very worst we've ever seen. Pay attention to this, because there are a lot of people who see this as a huge problem.
    9. BTHL Home Page:
      1. How would you rate it? Good
      2. What have you liked about it?
Contact email addresses are extremely helpful. Need more recent news, sometimes there were no changes for weeks.
      3. What could be improved?
Location for some of the HS tournament games was incorrect. Some of the results of the Louisville tournament games were incorrect, but were corrected immediately when the webmaster was notified.
      4. Other comments:
        Excellant links
    10. BTHL Administration:
      1. We've eliminated most mailings this year. Is the website sufficient to keep you informed with what's going on in the BTHL? No response
      2. Have you seen/read the minutes of the BTHL Board Meetings? No
      3. Have you seen/read the BTHL Rules & Regulations? No
      4. Woud you be in favor of making submission of game stats mandatory? (goals, assists, saves, penalties) Yes
      5. Other comments regarding communication:
Are the board meetings minutes on the website? I was very dissapointed with the way BTHL handled the Bluehawks squirt parent issue. You severely penalized a parent and apologized to a coach who should not have been coaching, due to his repeated abusive behavior to his players and other teams' players. Thank goodness Indy Ice had the sense to pull him as a coach after, yet another fiasco. You really blew that one guys. It appeared that no one from the board looked into any of the allegations against the coach, you just assumed that the bluehawks team parents were biased. I hope that guy is barred from coaching in this league forever. You should have gotten a clue from the fact that the Indy Racers would not play that team, even if it meant forfeiting a championship game.
    11. Volunteers:
      1. We would like to add "Level Directors" to help enforce Roster compliance and resolve scheduling issues during the season. With enough volunteers we hope to have seperate individuals responsible for each age group and possibly each division. Would you be willing to volunteer for such a position? Yes
      2. Returning officers for the 2002-03 season are filling most board positions. However, please indicate if you might be interested in filling a board position, volunteers will not be turned away. Committees are always in need. Maybe, contact me at a later date
      3. If interested please provide a phone# or some other way to contact you: this email address
      4. The BTHL is run solely with volunteers from member organizations. In some cases, board members don't have players in the league. Do you have any suggestions on how the BTHL can better identify volunteers for board positions and committees?
How do you recruit board members? Where we came from, all members voted on board positions. Couldn't you give ballots out at the end of the year, one per family. Or have email addresses confirmed and do an online election for a period of a couple weeks.
    12. Any general / other comments:
