Buckeye Travel Hockey League Board Meeting
December 9, 2001 Minutes
Dayton, OH

Member Organizations Represented: Gem City, Kettering Fairmont, Athens, Columbus Bluejackets, Cincinnati, Butler Co., and Easton

Meeting was called to order by President Tracy Merritt.

The minutes from the 11/14/00 conference call were reviewed and accepted.

No formal Treasure’s report.  Murray Stall reported roughly $20K in the account with all bills current.  Murray further reported that a check emptying the current bank account had been written and sent to Treasurer Dr. Keith Kenitzer.  Keith will open new account.

Brief discussion concerning the play-offs.  Concern expressed that enough referees will be available for both weekends.  The Tournament Director has asked all area referee associations to conduct him if they are interested in working the play-offs.

All team rosters must be on file with the league by 12/31/00.  Any player signing in for a tournament game and is not on a roster filed by the deadline will not be permitted to play.

Meeting moved on to conduct issues.

Ken Nagel suggested raising the protest fee to $100.  It is believed that $25 isn’t enough and the league is being asked settle issues that should be dealt with between the teams involved.  $100 may make a team think twice.  This will be discussed at the Annual Meeting when rule changes are voted on.

There had been an outstanding protest by the Cincinnati Bantam AA team concerning a game played at the Dayton Bluehawks and 2nd puck appeared in the goal.  It has been ruled by the conduct committee that this game must be re-played.

Due to work commitments, Ken is going to off-load some of the conduct issues to Murray Stall for follow-up.

Discussion concerning length of periods.  The Buckeye Rules deal with minimums, but does not clearly state maximums.  Due to some recent games where longer than 12 minutes were used in the first two periods, resulting in a running clock in the third period, the league decided to clarify the rule.  If a team has enough ice time to play longer that 12 minute periods, the coach is to let the visiting coach know that this is available, prior to the start of the game.  If both coaches agree to play longer periods, it must be noted on the scoresheet.  If the visiting coach does not want to play longer periods, he is not obligated to and 12 minutes will be used.  This, too should be noted on the scoresheet.  It is the belief of the board that 90% of the coaches will agree to play the longer periods when given the opportunity, but it must be discussed prior to the start of the game.

In a game protest filed by the Columbus Bluejackets Midget AA team, this very rule was cited.  Kettering Fairmont played longer periods, even though Columbus did not agree to.  The board decided that the game must be replayed.  Ray Finnegan from Columbus suggested that the Silver Sticks game Columbus and Kettering were to play that evening be used as the make up game.  Fairmont declared they would go on the direction of the board.  The game was replayed.

Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.
