BTHL Annual Meeting
Items discussed and approved:
- Roster violations: It was confirmed that a team will forfeit any
and all games played if it is not properly registered with USA Hockey at game time. This is no different than current
policy and is consistent with past enforcement. In cases involving BTHL paperwork violations, it was decided
that a first time offense would result in a $50 fine along with a warning that any subsequent violations will result in
game forfeiture.
- Bantam game time: It was decided that the recommended Bantam
game will be increased to 14 minutes. The wording will remain consistent with other age groups allowing 12 minute
periods when faced with a shortage of ice time.
- Team managers will be required to submit accurate jersey #s for publication on the BTHL website. The primary
purpose is to assist opposing teams when confirming the use of legally rostered players.
- The Team Placement Chart and Association Classification
Chart were both accepted for the upcoming season.
- Knoxville (TN) withdrew their request for membership.
- Southern Ice of Nashville (TN) was conditionally approved for membership only when a southern division
exists for their teams. For the upcoming season it is anticipated that only our A divisions will have the required
southern divisions.
- The Scheduling Meeting has been set for 10am on Saturday, September 17 at Hara Arena. As in previous years, a brief
Board Meeting will be held at 9am to discuss any last minute issues. Attendance is open to all members.
- The team-registration/end-of-year-tournament fee has been increased $25 for most teams. With the increased game
time, Bantams have been bumped up to the Midget fee level; resulting in an overall increase of $75 for those teams.
- The Team Application Form has been updated to reflect the above changes. Applications
will be accepted at any time, early submission is encouraged.
The meeting ended with updates to the Prospective Team List from attending associations.
----
The meeting has been scheduled for 4:00pm on Sunday, May 15, at Hara Arena in Dayton.
In preparation of our annual meeting we are currently in the process of considering any changes for next season.
All items on the agenda (at this point) are relatively minor adjustments, nothing major. The meeting will take place in
May, details are pending and will be announced here when available. Depending on the feedback received, we may schedule
an interim "working meeting" to hammer out details before presenting them to the membership for approval.
Keep in mind that the vote at the Annual Meeting is simply an "Accept/Decline" vote. We'll consider each agenda item
seperately, but in each case we either adopt the change as proposed or we decline and fall back to the rule as
currently written. If you want a voice in shaping the changes you must get involved now by providing feedback and
participating in any meetings leading up to the Annual Meeting.
At this time we are just looking at two (2) items:
- The Team Placement Chart. The Association
Classification Chart has now been updated. Please note that we were given the numbers for "paid skaters only".
Previous to this year we were given "registered members". The difference is that coaches and IP members below the age
of 5 are now excluded from the count. In some cases this has reduced the number of skaters substantially and should be
a more accurate measure of relative size. As mentioned before, the new chart will force fewer teams into the "AA"
division and allow more teams to drop down into our "B" division. This will hopefully result in better competition for
the "AA" and "A" teams, while allowing for a little less travel at the "B" level.
- Southern Ice Youth Hockey (Nashville) and Knoxville (TN) have approached us about the possibility of joining the BTHL. They would like to
place teams in all age groups at both "A" and "AA" levels. In order that they may better plan for the season they're
asking us for an early acceptance. Given the geography involved we would like to hear from you on this.
