Information about recent MYHL closing and our new Rec division

BTHL Member organizations:

Thank you to our member associations who supported the Recreational League with team applications for the 2019-20 season.  The registration portal is still open for the new Recreational and Mite Divisions.

We continue to communicate with MYHL leadership for guidance.

Due to many recent inquiries and questions about the new Recreational League as well as a possible 8U/Mite division because of the recent announcement of the discontinuation of the MYHL House/Recreational League, we want folks to know that the Buckeye is committed to the following.

  • New Recreational (House, “B”) division: This new recreational/house division will be added for 10U, 12U, 14U players.
  • Recreational Division Philosophy: House/Recreational league will offer: parity of house competition via a seeding tournament, a similar season start date as MYHL (seeding tournament Oct 12/13 and/or Oct 19/20 depending on ice availability), lower cost than travel divisions, similar year end tournament dates as MYHL (end of Feb/beginning of March depending on ice availability).
  • 8U/Mite Division: Addition of a 8U/Mite division similar to what the MYHL was doing with a focus on USA Hockey FUNdamentals (Development & Fun) while preparing the players for their next age category of play. Mites will follow ADM philosophy of Red, White & Blue Hockey, and ½ ice “jamborees” with a few additional rules to help with consistency of play at the different venues.

We are diligently working through planning and expect to have a more detailed Q&A announcement by 8/15 to all member associations.

Thank you for your patience and please keep the questions coming to buckeyetravelhockey@gmail.com.

Thank you to all that have stepped up to help with this transition and addition to our league. We are especially grateful to those folks that are sharing their time, efforts and experiences gained from their years of experience in the MYHL.
