2019-20 "A" Travel End of Season Tournament

By BTHL, 02/18/20, 1:30AM EST

To all Coaches, Managers, BTHL Board and Commissioners:
Thank you all for your help with another season of BTHL hockey, and congratulations to our Regular Season Division Champions!

Like your own associations, we depend on the work of volunteers. We know and understand that you have been waiting for the schedule for the end-of-season tournament. Please remember that final league games occured just two days ago so there is a  limited time frame to complete and publish the final schedule.

As we emphasized in the pre-season call (last summer), some teams will play on Friday starting as early as 12:00pm. We do our best to avoid asking teams to miss school but it is unavoidable on this one day of the season.

"A" Travel Divisions End-of-Season Tournament
We have scheduled nearly 120 games for over 80 teams at six different facilities and eight sheets of ice. The master schedule is posted under the Tournaments tab.

This year we have used multiple format types for the playoffs. All divisions have a two-game minimum. We are using a modified double-elimination format, or a pool play/round-robin format (in some cases not all teams play each other). We have regrouped the teams to try to ensure the best competition and parity. Substantial effort was taken to increase the chances for competitive and fun games for all participants. We feel we have created situations where almost every game could be meaningful and that in most cases almost every team would have a chance at making it to the championship game. The goal was to create as much parity as possible and as a result some divisions were small. The potential cost included possibly more overnight stays and some situations where a team could end up playing three games in a day (usually when a losing team plays back in through the losers bracket).  Our hope is that the changes that were made are improvements from last year.

Please note that the brackets playing double-elimination switch to single-elimination in the final game. There is no rematch if it is the losing team’s first loss.

There is very little we can do to change the schedule at this point. If you believe you have found a critical error please let us know, and please try to suggest a solution. Due to limited ice times some schedules may not appear ideal.  Unfortunately these types of situations occur with tournaments of this magnitude over a 3 day period.  We expect all participants to do their part to accept the schedule as is and make the best of it.

As always we recommend that any hotel reservations have a cancellation option. There are no restrictions on hotel choice for this tournament.

Scoresheets will be provided at tournament check-in. Each team will need to bring stickers (preferred) or fill in their rosters. Please be sure you have sufficient stickers for all copies of the scoresheet for all your potential games. All teams should have a copy of their current USA Hockey Approved Roster.

Remember this is a completely volunteer run tournament. We appreciate and depend on your support. We will require a scorekeeper/timekeeper from the home team/visiting team for each game.

Updated tournament rules will be posted soon. All decisions of the tournament director are final.
